Bio

Ben Murrell

Ben Murrell is the founder of Homeowners Project Manager, an independent client-side residential project management practice covering South West London. He started as a carpenter, went on to found and own a residential building company, and now works entirely on the homeowner’s side — reviewing quotations, coordinating the team, and keeping a price-sensitive eye on every decision through to snagging and handover.

Typical projects include rear and side extensions, loft conversions and full-house renovations on Victorian and Edwardian terraces. The work is practical rather than salesy: what needs deciding, who is responsible, and what happens next.

Quotable

Five one-liners

Client-side vs builder PM

“A builder’s project manager works for the builder. A client-side manager works for you — same job title on paper, opposite seat at the table.”

— Ben Murrell, Homeowners Project Manager
Trade prices

“Retail markup on kitchens, bathrooms and finishes is often invisible until you know where to look. Trade pricing is one of the simplest ways a renovation stops leaking money.”

— Ben Murrell, Homeowners Project Manager
Living in during the works

“Living in a house under renovation is possible — but only if the sequence, the dust boundaries and the decision-making are planned for people, not just for trades.”

— Ben Murrell, Homeowners Project Manager
Quote traps

“Three quotes for the same extension are rarely the same job. The cheapest number is usually cheap because of what was left out, not because the builder is more efficient.”

— Ben Murrell, Homeowners Project Manager
Party wall timing

“Party wall notices are not paperwork to sort once the builder is booked. Two months is two months — a start date agreed without them is a start date that will move.”

— Ben Murrell, Homeowners Project Manager
